SQL 2005 SP2 Your account information could not be verified

You get this error while updating SQL 2005 to SQL 2005 Sp2. It took me very long to figure out what’s the solution. Infact my colleague “Henri Lo” only posted the solution for it.

Browse to the Registry Key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion.

Update the ProgramFilesDir value to C:\Program Files, then start the SP2 install again (Give restart if doesn’t work and then it should work).

Hello Piyush,

Thank you for sharing your experience with the installation of SQL 2005 SP2.

I’m working with Windows Vista, and I followed the directions that you underlined in posting. Unfortunately, the ProgramFilesDir value was set to C:\Program Files, and the message still appears. Can you provide any suggestion?
